Hey Little One
Hey little one,
Mama finished setting up all your things this week: your bassinet, pack ’n play, toys. All the little things we received at your baby shower.
The baby shower your big sister and cousin planned for us.
The baby shower full of green plants, little thoughtful details, a balloon arch and great food!
It was beautiful—and (mostly) a surprise. They did such a wonderful job.
We were showered in so much love and support by the people we hold dearest in this world. It was overwhelming in the very best way.
Mama doesn’t really like being the center of attention, so that part was a little hard for me. But we were starting all over again, twelve years later, so you deserved a party!
There wasn’t much left from when your siblings were babies. Just a few totes tucked away in the basement, filled with clothes I hoped I would get to use again someday.
And the Boppy.
Not because it is anything special to anyone else.
But because every single one of your siblings has laid their little heads on it at one point or another.
And soon, you will too.
Even if it may be a little worn and flattened.
Just with a brand-new cover.
And I just love the thought of that!
I even set up a little window bird feeder for us.
I know when you arrive in the middle of winter, the days will sometimes feel very long. There will be sleepy eyes, quiet afternoons, and days when getting out of the house feels like an impossible task.
So I wanted us to have something to watch.
Something simple.
Something alive.
We can sit together in the dining room, tucked into the warmth of our home, and soak up the winter sunlight that comes pouring through the big bay windows.
And we can watch the birds come and feast.
Maybe you’ll be sleeping in my arms.
Maybe you’ll be awake, staring out the window with those brand-new eyes, discovering the world for the very first time.
And I’ll probably be tired.
But I think those quiet winter days with you might become some of my favorite memories.
There is something so peaceful about preparing a home for someone you haven’t even met yet.
Every little thing I put in its place makes you feel a little more real.
Your things.
Your space.
Your place here.
After twelve years, our home is getting ready for a baby again.
And somehow, little one, it already feels like you belong here.
Like you’ve been missing from these rooms all along.
Mama can’t wait to fill them with you.
